AI in urban mobility: Antenne Landau in dialogue about AIAMO
Antenne Landau met with Mayor Dr. Dominik Geißler and Markus Wartha, President of ITS Germany e.V. and consortium leader of the AIAMO research project, for a talk during the AIAMO roadshow in Landau. This resulted in several radio reports on the official start of the trial phase in the southern Palatinate metropolis, in which Antenne Landau reported on the opportunities, challenges and prospects of the project.
Landau is one of the first cities in Germany to specifically use artificial intelligence to make traffic more environmentally friendly and fluid. The research focuses on AI-supported management of traffic light systems that can dynamically adjust the timing of the ‘green wave’ on main traffic arteries – for fewer unnecessary vehicle stops, lower emissions and a more even flow of traffic. From the beginning of 2026, the AI will be trained with real data to further optimise the systems.
The radio reports not only address the technical dimension and safety issues, but also the significance of such innovations for citizens, the quality of life in the city and climate protection.
