How data can improve traffic flow: AIAMO in MDV Magazine

After being presented within the MDV Magazine around a year ago, Markus Wartha, President of ITS Germany e.V. and consortium leader of AIAMO, provides an overview of the project’s progress and the latest developments in his report, which has now been published.

Practical trials of the applications for environmentally sensitive mobility management developed as part of the AIAMO research project are making great progress, as demonstrated by the results from the pilot regions of Leipzig and Landau in the Palatinate.

In Leipzig, around 30 sensors from the new environmental monitoring network are now providing an accurate picture of air quality and pollutant levels across the city. These are combined with traffic data from other sources in a digital twin.

Thus, mobility can be ‘planned digitally in advance’, as digital twins not only map past and current traffic conditions, but also simulate possible future scenarios. This opens up new possibilities for the city: traffic measures can be assessed even before they are implemented to see whether traffic flows more smoothly, how they affect buses and trains, or how air quality changes.

You can read the full article to find out how artificial intelligence helps to identify traffic patterns more quickly and prepare decisions more effectively, and how AIAMO supports local authorities in successfully implementing environmentally conscious mobility management.
