Municipal mobility with AIAMO in the DStGB magazine ‘Stadt und Gemeinde digital’

From environmentally sensitive mobility management to AI-supported traffic signal control: In issue 04/26 of ‘Stadt und Gemeinde digital’, Markus Wartha, President of ITS Germany e.V. and AIAMO Consortium Leader, shows how the AI-based solutions developed in the project support municipalities in managing mobility.

Mobility is a core municipal responsibility – and no longer the domain of a single department. Transport planning, environmental management, infrastructure, public transport and administration must work together to address different and sometimes conflicting requirements. In his expert article, Markus Wartha describes how AIAMO provides new foundations for decision-making and shares the experience gained in the pilot regions of Leipzig and Landau.

This also changes what municipalities need to consider when making decisions: traffic impacts, air quality, environmental targets and other factors must be considered together. AIAMO enables information to be used across departmental and system boundaries, allowing the different impacts of a measure to be considered from the planning stage through to operational management.

What this means for municipalities in practice is being tested in Leipzig and Landau under different conditions. The experience gained there shows how AI-supported mobility management works in real-world operations and provides valuable insights into how these approaches can be transferred to other municipalities.
