Scientific publication: AI-supported traffic and mobility management

A scientific publication by Alexander Sohr and Michael Ortgiese from Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) and Dr. Katharina Peine and Thomas Hornig from highQ Computerlösungen GmbH has been published in the scientific journal Strassenverkehrstechnik (issue 11/25). In it, the authors report on their work as part of the AIAMO research project, which is developing modular, AI- based systems for integrated traffic and mobility management.

Öffentliches highQ Dashboard für AIAMO Nutzergruppen

The core of the project is AIAMOnexus, which brings together data from traffic, environmental and infrastructure systems and processes it for use in AI-supported applications. These are used for adaptive control procedures for traffic lights, strategic construction site management and environmentally sensitive measures. Artificial intelligence supports the selection of suitable strategies through simulations, reinforcement learning and hybrid data usage.

One application is the mytraQ App editionAIAMO, which records mobility behaviour in compliance with data protection regulations and motivates people to adopt sustainable behaviour through routing alternatives, incentives and gamification. In addition, the highQ dashboard visualises aggregated data such as traffic flow, CO₂ savings and public transport usage, thereby supporting transport associations, cities and municipalities in implementing environmentally-oriented mobility strategies.

The article shows that AI can already make municipal transport and mobility management more efficient, environmentally friendly and user-friendly – an important step towards the mobility of the future.
